Small IT Group (SITG) Staff
Anna, twenty-eight years old. Your guide to the world of Bob. Anna’s official title is “Assistant Director.” Sure, it may sound impressive, but the job mostly consists of calming down suicidal users when Microsoft Office crashes before they had a chance to save their super important power point presentation. Anna says “have you tried turning it off and on again” more than anybody else in the office. Anna likes technology, but sees her time at SITG as strictly a day job that pays for graduate school.
Nick, thirty years old. Nick does pretty much everything that Anna does, but he doesn’t have a nice title because he is from the South, which is a major faux pas at trendy, liberal, BPU. In fact, the consensus at BPU is that anything south of St. Paul is undesirable. Nick is from Alabama, so too bad for him. It’s unfortunate, because Nick works hard, knows his stuff, and is very nice to those who deserve it.
Ben, thirty years old. Ben is the head developer with project management aspirations. Before coming to work at SITG, Ben work at the BITG (Big IT Group) on campus. Some think that the mess that is BITG should have prepared Ben to deal with Bob, but they are wrong. Ben is intelligent and unoffensive, and generally a very pleasant person. He tends to go cross-eyed when he hears something particularly outrageous, but otherwise, he has shown a relatively high tolerance for stupidity.
Dave, 28 years old. Dave is a senior developer, who works with Ben. He and Anna were good friends in high school and in college, and have since maintained an amicable social relationship. Dave used to work at a financial corporation until Anna convinced him to take a job at SITG. Dave started shortly after Bob. He is yet to forgive Anna for tearing him away from a lucrative, Bob-free career.
Tim, 28 years old. Tim is the web designer, and is quite good at his job. He gets bonus points for being just the right amount of hipster – enough to be creative, but not so much that he is annoying and intolerable. Tim is talented, and is a hard worker, but his chances of promotion are slim because he is from the Midwest, which, at BPU, is only marginally better than being from the South.
Marek, 29 years old. Marek is the systems administrator. He is from the Czech Republic, and is working at SITG on a temporary visa, the expiration date of which remains a mystery. In fact, very little is know about Marek, except that he is a fine systems administrator who hates Bob. When not working, Marek leads the life of an evil genius, the details of which also remain secret.
Bob, 43 years old. Bob embodies all the unpleasant geek stereotypes without any of the positives. Bob is completely devoid of any redeeming personality traits, and serves as the much hated protagonist of this narrative. Bob’s greatest achievement occurred in high school, when he was voted the president of the drama club. His reign, however, was short. He was impeached in a bloody coupe after trying to make ‘My Fair Lady’ back into ‘Pygmalion.’
I see this being a movie!
TPS Report anyone?
Anna, is your native language German? I noticed that while you’ve got a great writing style and can create a compelling narrative you make grammar/spelling errors consistent with a German native.
(know – known and a few other things)
It’s not bad, just an observation.
Hmmm, BPU = NYU?
Are these names and details faked? I hope you don’t get dooced.
BPU == UNI?
Very Interesting :) …
Wonderfully amusing and very funny, this series could be a great success.
Well done. :D
Dunder Mifflin for IT companies. Where is ‘Dwight’?
I liked this story better when it was called the office.
Introduce more characters, please! There must be others involved. What about the evil uber-boss? I’d like to hear more about him.
Bob seems way worse than Michael. Michael thinks people like him. I don’t think Bob cares either way.
trying to make ‘My Fair Lady’ back into ‘Pygmalion.’
That is very very funny.
